Leaving a Legacy to Pete's Dragons
Please help us to help people impacted by suicide
in the future by remembering Pete’s Dragons with a gift in your Will.
Leaving a gift in your Will to Pete’s Dragons will ensure that we can continue to help and support all those people in Devon and North Somerset who have been impacted by suicide.
Many of us put off making a Will but it is important to do so to ensure that our wishes are carried out in full.
Always consult a
solicitor to ensure you are given the best possible legal advice
on making a Will. It is also a good idea to prepare for this
first. The guidance below should help you do this.
Planning your Will
-
Estimate how much your estate is worth
List all your assets and
how much you think they are worth. Assets are things
like property, cars, valuables, savings and
investments. List the amounts you owe, this could
include mortgages, loans, and Inheritance Tax (IHT). Inheritance
Tax is usually paid on an estate when somebody dies. It's also sometimes
payable on trusts or gifts made during someone's lifetime. Most estates don't
have to pay IHT because they're valued at less than the threshold which is
currently £325,000. Once you have worked out these totals you deduct the
owed figure away from your assets figures and what is left is called your total
estate value.
- Who would you like to benefit and how?
Now you know how much your estate value is worth
you should decide who you would like to remember in your Will and how your
estate should be divided up between them. Even a small of your
estate gifted to Pete’s Dragons in your Will would make a huge
difference to our beneficiaries.
- Do you have any other requirements?
Here you may decide that you want your gift
to be used in a certain way.
- Nominate at least 2 Executors for your Will
You should choose at least two individuals
who you consider to be dependable and honest. These people
will be named in your Will and will take legal responsibility for carrying
out the instructions you have laid down in your Will.
- Arrange to see a solicitor
At this point you are ready to meet with a
solicitor who will talk you through the rest of the process.
How do I find a solicitor near me?
