I have been involved with the Dragons from the very start, Diva Dragon is my wife and Pete was my brother- in-law. From the start I wanted to make my own contribution to their efforts but found it hard to think of a challenge that my friends and family would think sufficiently challenging to dig into their pockets for!
Diva and I will have been married for five years this September and as a celebration we are going on safari to Africa. The bungee jump off the Victoria falls bridge at 111 metres in height is one of the highest in the world and has as always presented itself as a personal challenge, despite my background this jump will take me outside of my comfort zone as I do have a slight aversion to throwing myself from a perfectly good structure into mid-air supported by nothing more than a rubber band over the crocodile infested Zambezi river. Also the missus will be there (so will need to check there’s no tampering going on before my jump !!)
I have decided that I would like any proceeds from my jump to go towards "Help for Heroes", in particular the new rehabilitation centre, Hasler Company, in Plymouth. The reason for my selecting a Royal Marine Charity (other than being an ex-Royal Marine!!) and how they tie in with Pete’s Dragons is fairly simple: When Pete went missing I was working abroad and unable to get back quickly, however a friend of mine and serving Marine stepped in and helped organise the searchers/volunteers into a more coordinated and efficient search group which made a enormous difference to the area covered. During this time I also received a very generous offer from the CO at Lympstone who said he would be able to make as many bods as possible available to help in the search, unfortunately Pete was found and had passed away before we were able to take up this generous offer.
So whilst the cause is a worthy one in its own right I think you will all agree that the Royal Marines did help, extend offers of help, so Pete’s Dragons have agreed that it would be nice to show a little something in return.
Apparently it will be filmed and available for your humour so no excuses for you not to put your hands in your pockets.
Thanks for helping
